PRELUDE
Psalm 8:3-6
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the
moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for
him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the
works of your hands; you put everything under his feet:
I
believe that most of us want to find a purpose and a meaning for our lives. Many musicians dedicate their entire lives to
music in order to perfect their talents and to achieve the personal goals that they intend to accomplish. Becoming a professional
musician requires this kind of commitment but I believe that there is even a greater commitment that every individual needs
to make while they are living here on this planet. This commitment is to God. God has a specific plan for each and every one
of us. I intend to offer my explanation of God’s plan for our lives by using a metaphor that I will refer to as "God's
Cycle of Music." If we are willing to make this commitment, we will be able to know and experience God’s ultimate
purpose and meaning for our lives.
When I was four years old, I asked my mother for piano lessons.
Now, for nearly forty five years, I have been playing or teaching people how to play the piano. I have spent my entire life
developing my skills so that I can be a professional musician. Even though I make my living as a piano teacher and as a performer,
I have come to realize that teaching and playing the piano is not my most important purpose and meaning for being in this
world. However, my experiences in music have helped me to understand how I can fulfill God’s intended purpose and meaning
for my life.
There were several times in my life when I believed that playing
and teaching music was my only purpose for being alive. I would ask myself, "What would happen if I could not use my
skills in music to accomplish my own personal goals? Would my life have any value at all if I wasn't a musician?"
Perhaps you have had similar thoughts regarding your own unique talents and abilities. Fortunately I have come to realize
that my ultimate purpose in life is simply to know God and to serve Him in everything that I do and say. Now music is primarily
important in my life because it allows me to serve God in a way that brings honor and glory to Him.
If anyone attempts to find the purpose and the meaning for their life, they will continue to search for
answers until they realize that they exist primarily to love and to serve the One who has created them. The Composer has made
us. We are His Music. When we understand and accept this, we will know the purpose and the meaning for our lives and what
we should be doing with the talents that we are capable of offering unto Him.
Writing
this book is just one of the ways in which I have been able to participate in God's Cycle of Music. This book was written
so that you can know God's divine purpose and meaning for your life. This purpose is the reason why we are all alive.
He has revealed this purpose and this meaning to me and now I pray that He will reveal it to you. Are you interested in knowing
God's purpose and meaning for your life today?
